<p>Sorgatz begründet dies mit der Motivation, die ein Spiel für unser tägliches Leben bietet:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;We use game models to motivate ourselves, to answer questions, to find creative solutions. For many, life itself has turned into a game.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Als Beweis führt er folgenden Beispiele an:</p>
<ul>
<li>Die US-Army rekrutiert Soldaten mithilfe von Kriegsspielen</li>
<li>DanceDance-Revolution macht aus Game-Nerds Clubgänger mit heisser Sohle</li>
<li>Gran Turismo verbessert (oder verschlechtert) die Fahrkünste junger Möchtergern-Zuhälter</li>
<li>RSS-Feed-Ausmisten fühlt sich an wie Pac-Man-spielen</li>
<li>In den USA erfolgreiche Fernsehsendungen wie Survivor, The Apprentice, American Idol, Lost oder 24 setzten auf die Elemente, die längst auch Computerspielen bekannt sind.</li>
</ul>
<p>Seine Beispiele überzeugen mich zwar nicht durchwegs, dennoch ist seine These eine lustige Perspektivendrehung. Treffend finde ich das ich das Bild vom Leben als &#8220;health bar&#8221;</p>
<blockquote><p>And as we play through our lives, we don&#8217;t reach for a Coke — the pause that refreshes. Instead we grab a high-octane energy drink, a liquid power-up to refill our health bar.</p></blockquote>
<p>Für viele Dinge kann man sich tatsächlich besser motivieren, wenn man ein Spiel oder einen Wettbewerb draus macht. Man sieht dies beispielsweise bei Börsenfuzzis, die ihren Bonus optimieren um möglichst die Highscore zu erreichen. Hackern, die Systeme austricksen für Ruhm und Ehre, oder nicht zu letzt in Social Networks wie Facebook oder Myspace, wo sich Menschen um die Anzahl Freunde konkurrenzieren. Eigentlich möchte jeder mit möglichst wenig Anstrengung, möglichst viel herausholen. Sorgatz macht hier den tonangebenden Trend unserer Zeit aus:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Gaming the system has become the prevailing narrative of our time.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Einen wichtigen Lebensbereich, wo das Spiel immer schon der vorherrschende Modus war, lässt Sorgatz jedoch aus: Der Sport. Wo sind die Computerspiele, die als Vorbild für die körperliche Betätigung herhalten?</p>
